When most I wink, then do mine eyes best see...
Sonnet 43When most I wink, then do mine eyes best see,
For all the day they view things unrespected; But when I sleep, in dreams they look on thee, And darkly bright are bright in dark directed. Then thou, whose shadow shadows doth make bright, How would thy shadow's form form happy show To the clear day with thy much clearer light, When to unseeing eyes thy shade shines so! How would, I say, mine eyes be blessed made By looking on thee in the living day, When in dead night thy fair imperfect shade Through heavy sleep on sightless eyes doth stay! All days are nights to see till I see thee, And nights bright days when dreams do show thee me. Listen to the recording!Free sample available for this sonnet! Click HERE

My eyes seem to work best when I’m trying least to look. All day long I look at things I don’t care about, but when I’m asleep, I see you in my dreams, and in the darkness my eyes are led by your bright light.
Oh you, whose mere shadow lights up other shadows – how wonderful would the direct form of your shadow make the bright light of day by casting its infinitely superior light upon it, when even your mental image is such a beacon to eyes blind in sleep!
Just imagine how lucky I’d be to see you in reality, during the daylight, when even at the dead of night your image (beautiful but not a patch on what you are in reality) haunts my sight through the barrier of sleep!
My days are light night, until I see you, and nights are turned to days while I continue to see you in my dreams.
