Sonnet 33Full many a glorious morning have I seen
Flatter the mountain-tops with sovereign eye, Kissing with golden face the meadows green, Gilding pale streams with heavenly alchemy; Anon permit the basest clouds to ride With ugly rack on his celestial face, And from the forlorn world his visage hide, Stealing unseen to west with this disgrace: Even so my sun one early morn did shine With all triumphant splendor on my brow; But out, alack! he was but one hour mine, The region cloud hath mask'd him from me now. Yet him for this my love no whit disdaineth; Suns of the world may stain when heaven's sun staineth. |

Many times, I’ve seen wonderful mornings turning mountain-tops and meadows into golden spectacles of wonder, only to allow the nastiest clouds to spoil and ruin the beautiful morning’s face. Then he’ll slink away in dejection all the way to the west without ever showing his lovely face to the world again that day.
Just like this my sun [son] rose early in the morning and made my face shine, but unfortunately he was only given to me for a short time and now he’s been taken away.
I don’t blame him for this at all, though: if even Heaven’s sun can be obscured, my son has every right to do the same.
